The Hook Policy

The Hook Appropriate Technology is a proprietorship.

In order to be effective in marketing and to avoid misunderstandings, we have found it important to adopt these policies and guidelines:

    1. We are pleased to consider your submissions and products, but solicit only non-confidential, public or previously protected information. We do NOT accept confidential material, and any and all material submitted to us is deemed non-confidential, despite any marking to the contrary. We can't keep something secret and effectively market it at the same time. We specifically and expressly need to be able to disclose information to be able to market products. In addition, prospective licensees (prospective acquiring companies) will not usually consider confidential submissions either. 'Confidentiality' strictly means that someone would need to keep the material secret, which is at great odds with marketing. A Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) or Confidential Disclosure Agreement (CDA) may be a breach of contract lawsuit on a silver platter. Consequently we do not enter into NDAs or CDAs which would prejudice our marketing efforts or create a legal confidentiality. A general observation is that technologies subject to strict control of this sort may still rightfully belong in the R & D stage, and may not be ready yet for commercialization.
    2. However, if we elect to work together, our separate standard written Marketing Agreement says that we agree  "to act in our client's best interests at all times," a very broad and generous protection.
    3. Our obligations shall only exist by formal contract and our liability shall be limited to such as may arise from valid patents, trademarks and copyrights.
    4. We are not attornies and do not practice law or provide legal advice; our services are generally related to marketing. All inventors are specifically encouraged to retain competent counsel to represent their interests.
    5. We are not registered to sell securities, nor do we do so; our services are limited to helping to procure general partners or accredited investors. We do not guarantee or warrantee the investment soundness of any invention, technology or business which appears on our website or which we represent.
    6. All material sent to us is for our records and will not be returned. The only exception may be unique or one-of-a-kind prototypes which we will do our best to return, but we cannot guarantee their return from customers. We do not normally return product samples.
    7. We normally require a separate written authorization to be able to act as a marketing agent for an inventor.
    8. Separate fees may be required by other vendors and are the sole responsibility of the inventor; any other business expenses incurred by the inventor are not to be deducted from our commission.
    9. As our compensation is performance based, we do not guarantee outcomes.
    10. We are not responsible for consequences of any material, errors or mistakes on our web page. The links and other resources are provided as a courtesy only and do not constitute any endorsement or create any liability.
