The Hook Specific Answer (To Frequently Asked Questions)

Question #3

Q3: You've said that a brochure is necessary, but how about this: will my issued patent work as a brochure?
A: No. A sales brochure needs to communicate the major benefit of the device to a lay reader (executive at prospective acquiring company/ potential customer) in a few seconds time. In contrast, a patent is not a sales or marketing presentation. A patent serves two major purposes. First, it is the equivalent of a deed to real estate in that it sketches out the bounds of the intellectual property (the claims). Second, it serves a technological and pedagogical function in instructing how to make and use the device.
